The College offers students the opportunity to sit the Cambridge ESOL examinations at all levels, from the Key English Test (KET) to Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE).
Cambridge examinations have stood the test of time, with the Certificate of Proficiency having started as far back 1913. They are objective, reliable, and valid for both study and employment purposes and progressive in level, from KET (A2 on the Common European Framework of Reference) To CPE (corresponding to C2 on the same scale). They are internationally recognised and respected.
On 27 November 2008, the UK Border Agency recognised Cambridge ESOL examinations for Tier 2 of the points based system (PBS) for immigration. Tier 2 of the PBS enables UK employers to recruit skilled workers from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) for jobs which cannot be filled by a British or EEA national. Cambridge ESOL examinations provide evidence of a migrant’s English language ability and attainment.
The examinations are structured as follows:
A2 –Waystage -
B1 – Threshold
B2 - Vantage -
C1 – Effective operational
Proficiency
C2 – Mastery Certificate of Proficiency in English
Each examination tests the candidate’s skill levels in the four areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening. Passes are awarded at A, B and C grades. The examinations normally take place twice a year, in June and December, with a recent addition of an extra FCE examination session in August.
Whatever your future intentions, be they educational or professional, a Cambridge ESOL certificate will stand you in good stead and help you to achieve your goals in life.
